After months of cold, windy gray skies, and long nights, spring finally makes the scene – and this year, it feels especially meaningful. Maybe it’s my age takin’ here but this winter tested our patience. The storms seemed endless and the darkness lingered a little too long. I can’t say I see any buds yet, but I know they are there and will make the scene very soon.
Spring invites us to step outside, breathe deeper, and reconnect – with nature, with one another, and with ourselves. It sounds so weird to say this but every winter, I miss my neighbors. No matter how many times I promise myself I am going to organize a game night or a progressive dinner, we end up going months without seeing each other.
When I was growing up in Auburn, we always chatted through the winter as we brought groceries in or shoveled the driveway. These days all you see is the garage doors going up, then down, you really don’t get the chance to chat in the winter the way you do in the other three seasons.
I swear, the last time I saw my 10-year-old neighbor she was 4-feet-tall, I think she shot up 6 inches through the winter. So, here’s to brighter days, a little warmth, green grass and great country music.
